Roborock S7 in the test – vacuum cleaner robot with sonic mopping

Roborock S7 – scope of delivery and design

The box of the Roborock S7 contains the robot itself, a mop, the charging station, a power cord and the operating instructions. Overall, the basic equipment of every vacuum cleaner and mopping robot.

The Roborock S7 is kept in white with reddish accents in some places, which also corresponds to the branding of the brand. It consists mainly of plastic and its general structure is not unknown. At the back we have the 0, 47 L dust tank (0.3 L water tank inside, both washable), front bumper plus sensor as one of several methods to detect obstacles and at the same time not to harm the robot . Above the tower whose interior rotates and in which there are further lidar sensors for room recognition, some buttons for manual operation, a status LED.

If you turn that All in all and look at the underside of the Roborock S7, in addition to the wheels for locomotion, you will also find the contacts for charging, the side brush, the inner lamellar brush and the magnetic surface to which the mop is attached.

The charging station is kept quite small and even equipped with sensors to make it easier to find the way of the Roborock S7.

An automatic emptying station should be added in the course of the year come on the market as a separate accessory that is compatible with the Roborock S7. It would definitely be interesting. I would have liked to see it as part of the scope of delivery, but I’m assuming that there should be a bundle at the time.

Roborock S7 – App and Features

Setting up the Roborock S7 app is super easy and does not take long. In this one can connect several robots, manage them, update the firmware and more. Which options are available and the number of these naturally changes from device to device. You can also choose the spoken language of the robot, see the condition of the brushes, the filter and the tank before they have to be cleaned and when starting a suction and / or wiping process you can choose how strongly you want to vacuum or how much water may be used. The carpet mode can also be activated, which ensures that carpets are vacuumed harder, etc. If the mop is connected, you can also choose whether carpets should be bypassed, whether the mop should be lifted and then vacuumed again, etc. better cleaning should vibrate. I generally find this sonic vibration function very good. However, the carpet feature only works with thin carpets. A total of 5 mm can be raised here, which is why the carpet may be 4 mm high. That is not much. To be honest, I don’t know what carpets are currently like in German households, but since I disposed of all the carpets in the house years ago, this feature is less relevant to me.

When the Roborock is started for the first time S7 uses its lidar sensors around a Grundr eat the space to draw. Thanks to this, he can immediately discover obstacles and estimate distances. Since the sensors rotate continuously with the sensor tower until the end of the suction process, the robot usually always knows directly where it is and also remembers it if new obstacles suddenly appear without first entering them. This immediately creates a room plan for the entire floor, where the rooms are divided more or less exactly where the doors are, or where the floor changes. Should an integration be wrong, the limits can be reset manually. This means that the robot has a map that it can use for orientation every time it starts. But not just one, but up to four cards can be saved and managed for four individual floors. If the Roborock S7 knows the approximate structure of the rooms, it works this systematically, which can then be seen in a slightly delayed real time.

It is nice that you have many options here to use or restrict the Roborock S7. The automatic room separation allows you to determine which rooms should be cleaned and when. In the case of several rooms, you can even determine the order. You don’t have to have the room cleaned or the entire floor selected, but simply determine that the Roborock S7 should only clean a certain area, which is located within or between rooms, because flour may have landed somewhere during baking or someone has juice has spilled etc.

You can restrict the room to the extent that you can set up No-GO zones where the Roborock S7 should not be cleaned at all, or zones where it is not allowed to wipe , for example because cables are exposed there. In the example above, for example, I have restricted the area around a difficult obstacle so that the robot does not go there, because I know that 95% of the robots get stuck at this point. You can just as easily create virtual walls (red line). These are then not exceeded. With some other robots you have to set up magnetic tapes or lidar sensors, which is completely impractical. This solution is not only reliable, but you also save yourself the purchase of additional materials, which are then ugly in the apartment.

Roborock S7 – battery area and speed

The Roborock S7 has with me 30 m² in 35 Minutes cleaned without leaving anything out. It has in balanced mode 17% consumed. Accordingly, it can be said that the battery really performs well. Maximum should 180 minutes (3 hours) and 240 m² be possible, which should be mathematically good if you reduce the performance and extrapolate the whole. The more you vacuum, the less the battery life. However, I think it is unlikely that the battery will be empty. For that, the home would have to be huge. I could have it cleaned on three floors of the same size in a row and still have something left over. The robot with the integrated water tank can wipe up to m².

The Roborock S7 sucks with 2500 Pa and is therefore 25% more powerful than the Roborock S6 and almost as powerful as the S6 MaxV. The Roborock S7 is not really loud, unless you use the max mode. It can automatically increase the performance on carpets, but even then I find it relatively ok in terms of sound. What struck me, however, is the slightly deeper tone than other robots. I find that much more pleasant than the high tone that many other robots have.

Roborock S7 – price and availability

The Roborock S7 is just a few Weeks old and is available online from various providers such as Amazon and Ebay for 499 Euro. I can’t yet say how things are currently with retailers such as Saturn and Media Markt, where the predecessors could and can already be found.
