Kia EV6 – 800V goes mainstream

If you’re like me, then you probably don’t have Kia fully on your radar. That changed for me after I drove the Kia e-Niro for the first time. The Kia slogan at the time was “The Power To Suprise” I thought it was very appropriate. After testing various Kia models over the past few years, I was no longer surprised by Kia. I now simply expect the quality and good driving characteristics from a Kia.

Even at Kia itself, people have become aware that they are no longer the underdog. That’s why Kia has a new logo and a new slogan this year: Movment that inspires

The now presented Kia EV6 is what I think is a good demonstration of the new motto.

Technical data Kia EV6

For the EV6, Kia uses the E-GMP platform used on the Hyundai, for example, presented the IONIQ 5. The technical data can be seen in my opinion:

The 800 Volt architecture means that the KIA EV6 In 18 Minutes from 10 on 80 percent can be loaded, also 100 km range in Reload less than 4.5 minutes.

That’s what we’ll only get from the know Porsche Taycan . But the EV6 is not only advancing in Porsche regions in terms of charging speed, but also in terms of acceleration values.

The GT version sprints up to speed in 3.5 seconds 100 and drives 260 km / h top.

“The EV6 embodies the new Kia. It was created with the aim of creating an inspiring effect on every journey through its bold design, advanced technology, innovative technologies and impressive driving performance. In addition, the EV6 represents the beginning of Kia’s long-term commitment to sustainable mobility. The aim is to accelerate the transition to clean solutions not only during transport, but also for products, materials and production. “ Ho Sung Song, President and CEO of Kia

Highlights Kia EV6

Since all impressions so far are based on the online presentation and the subsequent Zoom PK, do I just do it now and copy the points from the PM that I personally found most interesting:

Elektro Power

The EV6 2WD with 77, 4 kWh battery has a combined Range of over 480 kilometers (according to WLTP). He has a 168 kW (229 PS ) powerful electric motor that drives the rear wheels. The all-wheel drive version has an engine with 239 kW (325 HP) power and 560 Nm torque and completes the sprint from zero to 100 km / h in just 5.2 seconds.

The EV6 AWD with standard battery (58, 0 kWh) is replaced by a 173 – kW electric motor driven, who also 605 Nm torque ment and accelerates to speed in 6.2 seconds 100. The rear-wheel drive with standard battery has an electric motor mi t 125 kW power.

The EV6 GT, its two motors a total of 400 kW mobilize, is on a different level in terms of performance. Its maximum torque of 740 Nm catapults the all-wheel drive from a standing start in just 3.5 seconds 100 kilometers per hour, and the

Acceleration only ends at the maximum speed of 260 km / h. The additional electronic locking differential software, which is only available for the EV6 GT, guarantees the highest level of control and driving dynamics under all conditions.

800 Volt fast charging

The EV6 can be operated without additional components or adapters to 800- and 400 – Connect volt charging stations. This makes it possible for all model variants to charge the battery in only 18 Minutes from 10 on 77 percent to charge. And the 2WD versions with 55, 4 kWh battery can be recharged in less than four and a half minutes 100 Kilometers of range “refuel”.

The EV6 owes its greater charging flexibility compared to previous battery-electric vehicles to an integrated charging control unit (ICCU). The ICCU enables a new “Vehicle-to-Load” function (V2L), with which energy can be drawn from the vehicle battery. Using this function, which supplies electricity with an output of up to 3.6 kW, for example a 55 – inch TV and a medium-sized air conditioner at the same time up to 24 hours. If necessary, it can also be used to charge another electric vehicle.

Connectivity and infotainment

With the EV6 a number of technologies introduced that optimize safety, connectivity and infotainment. They are designed to make traveling safer, more comfortable and less stressful.

The high-tech infotainment system includes two 11 – inch screens. The curved displays have thin-film modules that use a new structure and modern technology to reduce the influence of lighting conditions. The instrument display and the infotainment display are connected to one another as if they were applied to a support made of reinforced glass. This unit extends from the steering wheel to the middle of the vehicle, with a digital instrument cluster in front of the driver and the infotainment system above the central console.

The EV6 also has a head-up display with augmented reality (AR). It projects driving information onto the lower area of the windscreen directly into the driver’s field of vision. This includes warning messages from the assistance systems, navigation instructions and the current speed.

Safety and comfort

With its wide range of the most modern Driver assistance systems (ADAS), the EV6 is in the top range of its segment in terms of safety and comfort. The high-tech helpers help to reduce many of the risks and stresses associated with driving and protect occupants and other road users.

The Safe Exit Assist (SEA) prevents collisions if the occupants overlook a vehicle approaching from behind while getting out. In this case, the system warns before opening the door. In the rear it also automatically locks the door by activating the electronic child safety device.

The traffic jam assistant (Lane Follow Assist, LFA) keeps the vehicle in the middle of its lane. The system can be switched on and off while driving at the push of a button.

Highway Driving Assist 2 (HDA 2) keeps the EV6 in the center of the lane at the set speed and ensures a safe distance from the vehicle in front. If a neighboring vehicle comes dangerously close to the crossover, the system helps to create the necessary safety distance to the side by adjusting the course in order to avoid a collision. In addition, it can independently change lanes above a certain speed as soon as the driver flashes in the corresponding direction – provided both hands are on the steering wheel.

First Conclusion Kia EV6

“The GT version of the EV6 was designed to add something extraordinary to the crossover – Bring class. It offers a striking, impressive look with high-tech elements and a level of performance that is unprecedented in previous Kia electric vehicles. ”

In conclusion, I think the statement reflects the demands of the Kia EV6 very well .

I am glad that manufacturers are finally moving away from SUV electric cars and focusing on what I think is a more appealing design.

The technical data and the design of the KIA EV6 look promising. The first models are to be delivered in September of this year. In the next few years up to 11 other purely electric models will follow.

I will definitely try to get a driving impression as soon as possible. Analogous to the changed Kia slogan, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Kia EV6 becomes a good car ..
